HKUST Website Revamp
Project Brief
HKUST needed a modern, future-ready website capable of serving a broad audience ranging from prospective students to global research partners. As one of Asia’s leading universities, the website must communicate academic excellence, institutional credibility, and a strong sense of community.
The previous site contained legacy content structures, varied layouts, and areas where editorial flexibility was limited. Our goal was to deliver a refreshed, scalable, and maintainable platform built on Drupal, supported by stable cloud architecture and improved content management capabilities.
The Challenge
HKUST's website had grown through years of updates, which led to varied layouts and deep content paths that were difficult to navigate.
Content teams needed clearer structures and tools that made managing updates more predictable and efficient.
The Vision
We aimed to create a unified experience that presents HKUST’s academic and research strengths through clean layouts and clear structure.
Our goal was to deliver a flexible platform that supports future updates, diverse content needs, and consistent editorial workflows.

Comprehensive UI Redesign
We refreshed the website’s visual presentation with clear layouts, updated typography, and page structures that better support academic, research, and community-focused content.
Reusable Content Templates
We built a collection of modular templates in Drupal, allowing editors to create new pages quickly while keeping layouts consistent across the entire site.
Simplified Site Structure
We reorganised navigation and consolidated deep content paths, making key information easier to locate for all audiences.
Optimised Cloud Hosting Setup
We deployed the website on AWS using CDN distribution and defined caching rules to ensure fast, stable performance under varying traffic loads.
User-friendly Backend for Content Editors
We implemented content types, permissions, and workflow controls, giving HKUST’s team a more predictable and efficient way to publish and manage updates.
Smart Content Migration
We migrated legacy content into standardised templates, removed redundancies, and aligned materials with the new site structure to create a more maintainable foundation.
