HKBU VRC Website
Project Brief
HKBU’s Visualization Research Centre (VRC) needed an online home that reflects its role as an interdisciplinary centre at the intersection of immersive visualisation, aesthetics, and technological research. The new site needed to present projects, people, events, and research outputs in a way that’s accessible to a broad audience.
The website had grown over time with disparate sections and inconsistent navigation, making it harder for visitors to discover key content. Our goal was to build a structured, modern platform that supports varied content types and lets HKBU teams update information easily as the Centre continues to evolve.
The Challenge
The existing VRC presence lacked a clear framework for organising diverse materials such as research systems, project showcases, events, and publications.
Links and pathways had accumulated over time, and editorial updates required technical effort rather than straightforward content editing.
There was a need to unify different content areas under a coherent navigation and to support multimedia content without compromising load performance or accessibility.
The Vision
We envisioned a platform that organises VRC’s work around thematic content hubs while making it easy for visitors to browse research areas, interactive systems, and project outcomes.
The site needed to feel credible and professional, and it had to support ongoing editorial tasks without complexity, giving HKBU staff autonomy over updates.
Content needed to strike a balance between academic depth and approachability for public audiences, students, collaborators, and partners.
Responsive Design
Modern Visual Structure
We created a refreshed interface that organises immersive research content into clear visual sections while aligning with HKBU’s institutional identity.
Consistent Section Organisation
Content groupings (e.g., research areas, projects, events, publications) were structured so users can easily find and explore key areas of VRC’s work.
Mobile-friendly Presentation
Responsive layouts were implemented to ensure usability across devices, from desktops to tablets and phones, without sacrificing quality.
Editor-centric CMS Setup
New content templates and editing tools in Adobe Experience Manager give staff a straightforward way to update research records, projects, and news items.
Analytics-ready Tracking
Google Analytics integration provides insight into visitor trends and engagement, helping HKBU understand which content resonates most.
Accessibility and User Controls
Site features such as clear typography, consistent headings, and adjustable elements help improve readability and accessibility for a diverse audience.
